Abstract: A study of 113 phenotype features, including plant-growing temperature, nutrition utilization, antibiotic resistance, and NaCl and alkali tolerance, of 52 strains of Medicago sativa, isolated from the rhizobia of 22 M.sativa strains and 34 representative strains, was conducted. The result shows that the three strains:NWMSH022, NWMSH023, and NWMSH028 boast stronger NaCl and alkali tolerance than the others. By the analysis of MINTS software, a dendrogram of numerical taxonomy shows that, except NWMSH009, and NWMSH023, all the examined strains cluster into one phenotype at a similarity level of 89%. It takes a further genetic study to determine whether this new phenotype differs from the known rhizobial species.
