ACTA AGRESTIA SINICA was founded by the Chinese Grassland Society in November, 1991. In 1994, it became a quarterly with the print size of 185×260mm, and published one volume per year with 48 articles included. In 2001, the print size was changed to 210×285 mm, and 60 articles were published every year. In 2007, it became a bimonthly and 120 articles were published every year. In 2021, it became a monthly and the published articles increased to 300 every year, which broadens the range of readership. The total number of institutional users of the journal is up to 790 and journal readers are distributed in the 18 countries and regions. Moreover, full copperplate printing was used since 2008.

　　ACTA AGRESTIA SINICA is superintended by China Association for Science and Technology, sponsored by the Chinese Grassland Society, and operated by the Institute of Grassland Science, China Agricultural University. This journal is a core journal of Chinese academic publications in the field of grassland science, which publishes English papers as well. The purpose of journal is to report the latest scientific achievements in grassland science, and promote academic exchanges and the development of grassland science. The journal mainly publishes the new achievements, new theories and new progress of grassland science fields and the related fields around the world. The type of published articles are mainly research articles and include a small number of special issues, reviews, short communications and the abstracts of PhD thesis. The journal serves the teachers and students of colleges and universities and the researchers of scientific research institutes who are working on the fields of grassland science, grassland ecology, grassland animal husbandry, lawn and urban greening and the related fields.

　　Since the journal was founded in 1991, ACTA AGRESTIA SINICA has always been strictly run following the national regulations of sci-tech periodicals and the management laws of competent authorities, and achieved a good reputation in the academia. Especially, in recent years, the journal has received considerable attention from the sponsor and the organizer. The journal has strengthened the management, broadened the ideas of publishing, improved the working conditions, enhanced the working efficiency, established an editing team with full-time and part-time editors, and formed the rigorous editing style and good working order. The quality and influence of journal has been greatly improved. Now, ACTA AGRESTIA SINICA becomes the Chinese core periodical, the key magazine of China technology, the Chinese agricultural kernel periodicals, the C database of China Science Citation Database and the source journal of Chinese Academic Journal Comprehensive Evaluation Database. Furthermore, It is included in China Core Journal Alternative Database, WANFANG Data-Digital Journal Group, China Academic Journals Full-text Database, Chinese Science Abstracts (Chinese Edition), Chinese Biological Abstracts, Chinese Biological Abstracts Database and Chinese Electronic Periodicals Service. In 2008, the journal was included in Chemical Abstract of USA (CA), Center for Agriculture and Bioscience International Abstracts of UK (CABI), The Zoological Record (ZR) and Index of Copurnicus (IC),. The journal was rated as “RCCSE Chinese Core Academic Journals” in the Report on Chinese Academic Journals Evaluation (2012-2013) and the high-quality journal of science and technology engineering project of China Association for Science and Technology in 2013.

　　According to the statistics of the Citation Report of Chinese Sci-Tech Journal (Core Board) 2020 published by Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China (WANFANG), the journal is a highly cited index journal and all indexes increase. In 2019, the core total citations were 2557 times, the core impact factor was 1.296, and it ranked the second place in the animal husbandry and veterinary disciplines. According to the statistics of the Annual Report of Impact Factors of Chinese Academic Journals 2020 published by CNKI of Tsinghua Tongfang, the composite total citation frequency of journal was 4496 in 2019, the composite impact factor increased to 1.807, and it ranked the second place in the animal husbandry and veterinary disciplines. The readers of journal are distributing in the 18 countries and regions. The journal is cited by 299 journals and its total downloads in web is up to 1.023×10⁶ times.

      The journal is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access. The journal does not accept advertisement.
