Effects of Glutathione Priming on Germination and Seedling Growth Characteristics of Aged Oat Seeds

Abstract: To explore the effects of glutathione (GSH) priming on the vigor of aged oat seed (Avena sativa),seeds aged for 5 days were used as materials and were primed with different concentrations (0.1,0.2,0.5 and 1.0 mmol·L-1) of GSH solution for different treatment time (12 h,24 h and 36 h),and the changes of seed germination and seedling growth characteristics were studied. The results showed that the germination percentage,germination index and vigor index of the aged oat seeds were significantly decreased (P<0.05),the mean germination time was significantly increased (P<0.05),and the shoot length,shoot weight,root length and root weight were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The effects of different concentrations of GSH and priming time on indexes of seed germination and seedling growth of the aged oat seeds were different. The optimal treatment to alleviate the oat seeds aging was priming with 0.2 mmol·L-1 GSH for 24 h,which significantly shortened the mean germination time of aged seeds (P<0.05),and significantly increased the germination percentage,germination index,vigor index,shoot length,shoot weight and root length (P<0.05). Oat seed priming treatment can be effective measures to maintain seed vigor.

摘要: 为探讨谷胱甘肽(Glutathione,GSH)引发对老化燕麦(Avena sativa)种子活力的影响,以老化5 d种子为材料,研究了不同浓度(0.1,0.2,0.5和1.0 mmol·L-1)GSH溶液引发不同时间(12 h,24 h和36 h)下种子发芽及幼苗生长特性的变化规律。结果表明,老化后燕麦种子发芽率、发芽指数及活力指数显著下降(P<0.05),平均发芽时间显著增加(P<0.05),苗长、苗重、根长和根重均显著降低(P<0.05)。不同GSH引发浓度和引发时间处理后对老化燕麦种子发芽及幼苗生长各项指标的影响有所差异,其中0.2 mmol·L-1 GSH引发24 h是缓解种子老化的最佳处理,显著缩短了老化种子平均发芽时间(P<0.05),显著提高了发芽率、发芽指数、活力指数、苗长、苗重和根长(P<0.05)。燕麦种子引发处理可以为保持种子活力提供有效改善措施。
