Abstract: Ecological restoration in desertified regions represents a critical frontier in contemporary ecological research. However, the dynamic relationship between plant community diversity and stability over long-term restoration periods remains poorly understood. This study investigated the characteristics of plant community diversity, stability, and their associations with soil factors across varying restoration durations in the Mu Us Sandy Land. The results indicated that Simpson’s diversity index and Pielou’s evenness index increased significantly with increased restoration duration, accompanied by a marked enhancement in community stability. A significantly positive correlation was observed between community stability and Simpson's diversity index, demonstrating that plant diversity exerted a substantial influence on stabilizing community structure. Furthermore, soil organic matter, total nitrogen, and soil water content were identified as key factors governing both plant diversity and community stability. These findings elucidate the dynamic interdependencies between plant diversity and ecosystem stability during arid-land restoration, providing a scientific foundation for optimizing ecological rehabilitation strategies and combating desertification in the Mu Us Sandy Land.
