Abstract: The present paper outlines the research work of the Bridger Plant Materials Center of western USA and its efficient work of protecting and utilizing the plant resources. The center plays an important role in preventing soil erosion, restoring vcgetation and habitats of wild animals, bolstering the rangeland productivity, and beautifying gardens and grounds. All this provides worthy practical knowledge for the restoration and reconstruction of our country's grassland. According to our current grassland situation, we could learn much from the Bridger Center's experiences: (1) Conduct a long-term and systematic research of the indigenous and introduced plant materials. (2) Focus on the exemplary role of research work. (3) Naturalize and diversify plant materials for practical use. (4) Further perfect the regulations of cultivation and breeding of new forage and other plant species. Hopefully, these measures could assure the rational utilization of China's plant materials and preserve a balanced ecosystem.
