Abstract: s The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of different forms of fattening ways on lamb performance and carcass characteristics. In experiment I,twenty four Hebei or cross of Hebei to Merino(German)lambs (30.2 kg BW)were used in a 2×3 factorial arrangement. The results showed that under the condition of pasture ,lamb performance with supplemental diet (ADG, average daily gain) were improved significantly (P<0.001) compared with lamb fattened by means of pasture only. There was no greater (P>0.05)effect of lamb kinds on its performance. Moreover,Young wethers provided by supplemental diet were superior to wethers fattened with pastured only in reproduction performance. In experiment Ⅱ, four Hebei or cross of Hebei to Merino(German)lambs were selected in a 2×2 factorial arrangement. It is showed that lambs’ empty body gain with supplemental diet were improved effectively(P<0.001) compared with lambs’ pastured only. At the same time, other carcass characteristics (such as slaughter rate)were improved at some extent. However, there were no obvious effects of kinds on lambs’carcass characteristics.
