Schizophyllum commune is a globally distributed fungus that usually grows on rotting wood but has the potential to infect plants, humans or animals. Schizophyllum commune contains schizophylla polysaccharides, schizophyllin and sterols, which have significant medicinal value and are also a delicious edible fungus.
During the recent plum rain season in Zhejiang Province, some people found mushrooms growing on their apples. The mushroom was identified as Schizophyllum commune by experts (Dr. ZHAO Qi) from the Kunming Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
